My Dad turned 80 a few months ago, and so as a rather belated birthday present, a father son bonding experience and a kind of goodbye, I took him to Jamie Oliver's cookery school last night to learn how to make Boullibaise, Mediterranean Fish stew, with home made Saffron Mayonnaise.
Both of us love cooking, and to be honest both of us are slightly fascist in kitchen. We don't like people interfering, or as we call it stirring our gravy, but we bickered our way through and produced a really tasty dish.
I always forget how much I miss cooking whilst I am away. I love eating local food in local restaurants, and I am certainly not afraid to eat exotic (and sometimes weird, strange and disgusting) dishes, but after a few weeks away I really miss cooking and eating my own food. I know that somewhere beautiful and amazing all I will want to do is chow down on beans on toast or a cheese and pickle sandwich - but will have to make do with rice or noodles or something really bland.
I am prepared to sacrifice my cheese and bread and mashed potato and kitchen Stalin antics for a few months for this. But it wont be easy.
and boy am I gonna miss your cooking!! x
